Dear Beloved Mossy Creek UMC,

I want to let you know that today our Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson has requested that all churches in North Georgia suspend worship services and other large gatherings until the end of March. I have been informed that White County Schools are closed from March 16-20. Therefore, Mossy Creek UMC will cancel worship this Sunday, March 15. I will evaluate and let you know about worship on Sunday, March 22. However, we will definitely meet and worship again on Sunday, March 29, for Fifth Sunday worship all together at 10 AM (combining 9:08 & 11 am).

We do want to continue to support the church budget as we are responsibly practicing “social distancing” to help protect each other and our community and to slow the progression of COVID-19. I refer you to Sally Crowe’s email on giving and tithing: Giving options are: 1) the mailbox outside the church office; 2) mailing offerings to the church at PO Box 557, Cleveland; or 3) using our electronic giving option on our website at ETithe (contact Sally Crowe or John Solmon for Help).

While we are steadfast in our faith and love our time together in person, we need to acknowledge the impact of COVID-19 on each of us and so we need to suspend corporate worship out of care for our community, especially our older community.

Please know that I am praying for you and every member of our Mossy Creek family. We know that God is watching over all of us and that God is faithful always. I care about you all and want you to be safe and healthy. Please know that I am here to support you in any way possible so emailing and texting is our best mode of communication during this time so feel free to email (

I don’t want anyone to be frightened by this. I want us to claim the scriptures, not to live in fear, for God is our shield and our stronghold. We are simply acting out of an abundance of caution. Please know I’m here for you.

Grace & peace to you,

Rev. John T.

Dearest Mossy Creek Church Family,
Grace and peace be with you brothers and sisters. During this time of “social distancing” to keep each other safe and healthy and to curb the spread of COVID-19, I want to make sure you have wonderful resources to keep you in the word of God until we can gather again. Please go to, just following the link in the email I have forwarded to you in this email. has our Lenten study “The Walk” and our two adult Sunday school Bible studies available for free: A.J. Levine’s “Entering the Passion of Jesus” and “Adult Bibles Studies: the Uniform Series.” And there are lots more! It’s is a wonderful resource while we are “self quarantined.”
According to our Bishop’s urging, corporate worship has been suspended until March 29 (maybe longer). Therefore, I am canceling worship for this Sunday, March 22, also. Please use the Bible study resources online at Amplify Also, there are many wonderful UMC churches who have the ability to stream worship online; please visit one of our North Georgia sister churches for worship next Sunday.
Finally, I will open our Mossy Creek sanctuary for personal meditation on Wednesday, March 18th, from 4-7 pm, and on Sunday, March 22nd, from 9:30 am until noon. Remember, this is not corporate worship, and we will practice healthy social distancing during this time: people will meditate 3-6 feet apart.
I love you all and want you safe and healthy while we are living out John Wesley’s First General rule in practicing our faith: “Do No Harm.”
Grace & peace,
Rev John T
